In my work I push the boundaries of abstraction while holding on to figuration. The duality challenges me.  I am not concerned with pretty pictures. My work goes deep inside to pull out emotional content and creative exploration.

I often work with the figure. It is evocative and gives rise to spiritual embodiment which connects me to the painting and intensifies my desire to paint.

I work in series.

In my new series, Ananda, I capture the slow meditative rhythm of monastic life amid a world that feels increasingly unstable. The absence of facial features is intentional. The figures become vessels of contemplation embodying stillness. My use of color carries spiritual depth, grounding the figure in sacred presence. Ananda describes bliss or divine joy and a profound state of inner peace. My work endeavors to give that to the viewer.

“Nature Speaks” came out of summer where I paint beside Sutter Creek. Days spent in solitude with squirrels scampering, startled deer, glorious birdsong, polliwogs and leaping frogs, majestic hawks and kestrels, the creek babbling, all this infuses my work with the awe of nature that pulses inside of me. That is what you see on my canvas.

My animal series emerged at the end of a difficult period in my life. When that time was over, it was time to play. Creating my own animals engaged me with my imagination and moved my emotions forward.

My ocean series has always been in me. Summers on the Jersey shore I would swim in the ocean, especially during a storm. It stirred powerful emotions in me, emotions different from walks on the beach. What is expressed in this series are those feelings: excitement, tumult, romance, and a favorite place of mine — being on the edge.

I paint in multiple layers to create depth and richness of color. I paint in oil. Painting is the doorway to my interior life. It is an increasing awareness of that world that drives me to paint.
